Preserve Hunts
The Mount Baldy Ranch Bird Preserve is located in the heart of the Yakima River canyon, 13 miles South of Ellensburg. When you sign up for a Chukar and Quail hunt with Red’s Fly Shop, you can be assured of a high quality experience. The property spans 1000 acres of sage covered plateaus and basalt rim rock, which is ideal habitat for the Chukar partridge and Valley Quail. The terrain offers enough variety that your hunt can be tailored to meet your physical needs.
The birds we release are mature birds that fly well. In addition to the Chukar we release for your party, we also maintain a good population of Valley Quail on the property. Each hunter is allowed to shoot two Quail daily. The preserve is located atop a high desert bench with spectacular views of the Yakima River below. We only allow one group per day to hunt the preserve, so we recommend that you schedule your hunt in advance.
The 2008 bird preserve season is open until March 31, and then re-opens on August 1. |
Guided Hunts
- $99 annual membership fee required for all hunters.
- 6 Chukar released per gun (Pheasants available upon request).
- 1-2 Hunters: $299 per gun (does not include $99 annual
membership).
- 3+ hunters: $249 per gun (does not include $99 annual
membership).
- Includes: Guide, dogs, snacks and soft drinks, and cleaning of birds
- No license is required for this hunt
- 2-3 hour hunt.
Self-Guided Hunts
- 6 Chukar released per gun (Pheasants available upon request).
- $99 annual membership fee required for all hunters.
- 1-2 Hunters: $199 per gun (does not include $99 annual
membership).
- 3+ hunters: $169 per gun (does not include $99 annual
membership).
- No license is required for this hunt. Pheasants available by special request
- 2-3 hour hunt.
