Trout
Trips
This is one of our favorite rivers for fishing in the late summer and is
best experienced by drifting with a Red's Fly Shop guide.
Although the Met is best know for its terrific steelhead run, it also has a
very healthy population of wild Rainbow and Cutthroat Trout making it a
viable fly fishing destination throughout the summer and fall. Some of
the trout here can be very large. Trout season is open from June 1 -
September 30th and Steelhead usually opens in early October.
Steelhead Trips
The "Met" boasts healthy numbers of summer-run steelhead and is our favorite
river to swing a floating line with skaters, damp flies, or wets for
steelhead.
The alluring, gin clear water, scenic backdrop, large boulders, and aggressive population of wild and hatchery Steelhead make this a tough river to beat. We wade and float this river depending on water levels and strategy. Overnight accommodations in the Methow valley are utilized for this trip, and we encourage multi-day itineraries.
*NOTE: Steelhead seasons on the Methow are managed on an annual basis after returning adult steelhead runs are counted on the Columbia River. If there are plenty of fish, then the season will open on short notice. Typically the season run from early October through March.
A Washington Freshwater Fishing License with Catch Record Card is required for this trip. |

Testimonial
"I caught my first steelhead on the Methow a few years ago and it was unforgettable, especially since it was followed by second, third, and fourth on the same day! Learning to fish steelhead on the Methow was great for me because it is a very manageable size and thanks to the guide and water clarity, I was actually able to read the holding lies pretty well by the end of the first day. It really sped up the learning process for me and now I am a full blown steelhead junkie!"
